James E Sauer, well-loved son of Edward & Gertrud Sauer died Saturday, May 30, of the effects of Alzheimer’s disease; he was 77 years old. Often during the later stages of the illness, he would say, “I am a Christian; I believe Jesus died for me.” He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Oak Creek.

Jim was the loved and respected husband of Clare (née Schuette), the honored father of Mark (Marcie) and James J (Ayisha Jaffer), the loving grandfather of Daphne and Erik, and uncle to Rick (Lisa) Wolf, Jeffrey Wolf, and Tracey (Scott) Gardner, née Karpinen, Susan, Steven, Kim, Jimmy, Becky, Karen, Danny, Stephanie, Suzanne, Charlie, Charmian & Davy, and brother-in-law to Manfred Wernhart, Judy Tuschling, née Schuette, Janice Hreha, née Schuette, Barb (David)Wiegand, née Schuette.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Susan and her husband Jack Karpinen, and his sister Beth Wernhart and by Gerhardt & Ruth Schuette, Elaine (Robert) Badelt, née Schuette, Jim Tuschling, Gary (Roberta, née Pratt) Schuette, Daniel Hreha.

Jim completed grade school at Our Redeemer Lutheran School in Wauwatosa and graduated from Milwaukee Lutheran High School. He graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point.

Jim worked as an appraiser for American Appraisal Associates for thirty-eight years until his retirement.

In 1979, American Appraisal offered him a promotion that meant relocation to Cincinnati, Ohio; in 1999 offered him a transfer that meant retuning to Milwaukee. His trips “up north” in Wisconsin for fishing became family & fishing vacations in Michigan and again fishing in Wisconsin.

Memorial service for Jim will be held at Heritage Funeral Home 9200 S 27th St, Oak Creek WI with visitations Monday, July 6, from 4 – 6 pm & Tuesday, July 7, 9:30 – 10:30 am and the service at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorials for Jim can be made to the Grace Lutheran Church Mortgage Retirement Fund.
