Age 39 years. Coach Jim called the final play in his drive against cancer on December 23, 2017. He was at peace, holding his mother’s hand. Preceded in death by his father Gary Jacobsen. Caring son of Larry and Mary Pat “Patty” Compton. Loving brother and friend of Michael (DeAnne) Jacobsen, Stephanie Compton and Adam (Allison) Compton. Further survived by nieces, nephew, other relatives, and friends.

Jim was a beloved teacher and coach for 21 years, at Brookfield East and Sussex Hamilton high schools. In 2016, Jim helped coach the Brookfield East Spartans to their historic win of the Wisconsin State Football Championship – Division 2. His family and friends were there to support the team’s run. It was the first state football championship in the school’s history.

As a lasting symbol to honor his life’s passion for coaching, his peers at the WFCA (Wisconsin Football Coaches Association) named Jim the Assistant Coach of the Year for 2017.

As he dealt with cancer treatment including clinical trials, Jim said, “I had my miracle last fall. We won state.”

Special thanks to Stuart Wong MD, Susan Tsai MD and their teams at Froedtert Memorial Hospital for their professionalism, superior clinical skill, technical expertise and compassionate guidance. Appreciation extended to the Horizon Hospice team.
