Howie was one of my mother’s closest lifelong friends. Possibly the nicest, kindest, man I have ever met. My mom loved him deeply as a friend. They would talk for hours on the phone, always about nothing and everything. She would always know who the Packers were playing this week or what the weather was going to be becauase “Howie was telling me…”

Thank you, Howie, for being such a wonderful friend to my mom for 40 years.

My wife Ellen and I are so sad to hear of Howie’s passing. I was his classmate at Wauwatosa East HS and after going through Army service as a draftee I, like Howie, became an east side Milwaukee resident some 40 years ago. We would run into Howie every once in a while and always be greeted by that wonderful smile. He loved to visit and learn what was new with us. I’m sorry we couldn’t come to the service. I just had a severe foot injury in a fall from a ladder. But I’m thinking of you, Howie, as always.
