Gwendolyn Elaine Hagen Hartley

Gwen found peace on February 6, 2024.  She was born and raised in Osseo, Wisconsin, the daughter of Guy Joseph and Emma (Scholz) Hagen and stepmother, Marion (Bessie Haines) Hagen.  Richard Warren Hartley,  her husband of 61 years of marriage, preceded her in passing. She leaves daughter Colleen Hartley (Metzner) , husband Ralph (Metzner) and granddaughter, Michaeleen; and her son Neal, wife Kathleen (Novey), grandchildren, Ryan, his wife Lindsey (Peterson) and Krista (Hartley) Trusz and her husband Greg.  Gwen’s four siblings, Ethel Fleming (Herbert), Joseph Guy Hagen (Jean), Dorothy Marie Jacobs (Paul) and George Michael Hagen (Dale) also preceded her in passing.  In addition to the immediate family, she leaves behind many dear friends, long distance living family, and neighbors at the Regency in Muskego.

Gwen loved her family dearly and is the glue to her Norwegian family traditions. Every holiday meal began with a Norwegian prayer that no one understood.  She is known to be kind, a caregiver, and one who organized outings and trips. In early years she grew up during the years when one walked  a mile each way to school and shared a room and food with many family members.  After marriage to a Maine boy, Gwen helped run her husband’s plumbing company, and held many community service roles, then moving onto other jobs such as realtor and  bookkeeper.  For hobbies, she was a snowmobiler, cook, game hunter, kennel keeper and an avid Bingo player in recent years.

A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, February 10th, from 2:30-3:30pm at Heritage Funeral Homes – New Berlin (16880 W. National Ave. New Berlin).  A memorial service will follow, starting at 3:30pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome to the Elk Creek Cemetery Association (via check) W16316 County Road OO, Osseo, WI 54758 – This location is the final resting place for both Gwen and Dick Hartley.

Gwen will be greatly missed by all.
