It is with great sorrow that the family of Guadalupe Mendez Fernandez announces her passing on July 7, 2021, at her home in Oak Creek. She was born November 22, 1933, to Adolfo Lopez-Mendez and Concepción Mendez-Lopez in Moroleon, Guanajuato, Mexico. She was one of four children and emigrated to the United States with her husband in 1953, at the age of 18. She was selfless, funny, caring and kind. She had a great sense of humor, and her laugh was infectious to everyone in the room. She was strong, never raised her voice and was always willing to listen to your troubles, fears and dreams.  Her advice was well thought out and provided with grace, kindness and compassion.

She loved to go to the movies, something she had not done in her younger years. She loved going out to restaurants and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was always willing to take your call, as long as it did not interfere with her favorite novellas or the show Naked and Afraid.  She enjoyed to sew and to cook great meals for her family. She was the matriarch of the family, the glue that kept her children grounded.

She was blessed with fifteen children, who were the light of her life. Angelica (Thomas) Pritzlaff, Casimiro (Karla) Fernandez, Javier (Rose) Fernandez, Rose Villarreal (David), Irma Fernandez, Marina (Richard) Maringer, Sandy (Wesley) McKenzie, Peter Fernandez, Lourdes Fernandez, Marcos Fernandez, Jaime Fernandez, Monica (Jeffrey) Lozer, and Patricia Fernandez; 27 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; special friends of the family Catherina Nooyen and Shannon Ziglinski.

She is further survived by siblings Aurora Mendez and Jose Mendez (Delores) and several nephews.

Guadalupe was preceded in death by her parents, brother Rosendo Mendez and sons Peter and Roberto Fernandez.

Guadalupe will forever be missed for her humor, warm hugs and love of family.

A visitation will be held to celebrate her life on Monday, July 12th 2021 at ST STEPHENS CATHOLIC CHURCH (1441 W Oakwood Rd, Oak Creek) from 9:30am-11am with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am.
