Gordon “Gordy” R. Schumacher
Gordon Robert Schumacher, 86, of Brookfield, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026. Gordon was born on March 31, 1940, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of Robert and Thelma Schumacher. He is survived by brother Russell Schumacher, sister-in-law Lynda Schumacher, brother-in-law C. Thomas Reiter, sister-in-law Ellen Moog, children David Schumacher (Margaret), Susan Hensch (Tim), and Paul Schumacher (Gail), five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Annette, and his brother-in-law Jeffery Moog.
Gordon married Annette on August 18, 1962, at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He attended Washington High School in Milwaukee, University of Wisconsin – Whitewater, and earned his master’s degree from Kansas State University. Gordon was a respected teacher at Chilton High School in Chilton, Wisconsin, and West Milwaukee High School in West Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Gordon was a passionate teacher. He taught numerous math and computer science courses at West Milwaukee, and was a favorite of the students for more than 30 years. He loved being recognized by former students wherever he went, even after retirement. He was also an integral part of his community, serving on many school, church, and HOA boards throughout his life.
He passed along his love of math to his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and students. He enjoyed boating, playing cards, and most of all, spending time with family and friends. He dearly loved his wife, Annette, and they spent many happy times together, traveling the world and playing Cribbage and Hand and Foot more times than they could count. He was loved and will be missed.
A visitation will be held Friday, June 12, 2026 from 10:30 AM until the time of a Memorial Service at 11:30 AM at Heritage Funeral Home (16880 W. National Ave., New Berlin, WI 53151)
Donations in Gordon’s memory may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, or Hales Corners Lutheran Church.
