Gerald John

Zens, Gerald J.
Passed away peacefully with his son Jason at his side on February 28, 2017, at the age of 80 years. Beloved husband of the late Maxine Zens for 49 years. Loving father of Pamela(Dan) Donegan, Timothy, Daniel, and Jason. Proud grandfather of Oscar, Emily, Sophie, Maggie, Mitchell, Mason, Isabelle, and Nathan. Brother of Thomas(Carole) Zens, the late Robert, and the late Roger. Brother-in-law of Reta Zens. Will be dearly missed by his loving dog Sy, who was by his side until the end. Also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A visitation will be held Friday from 4-7PM at Holy Apostles, 16000 W. National Ave., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 7PM. Private entombment St. Adalbert Cemetery.
Dad was a retiree of the Milwaukee Police Department, a proud veteran, and a trustee of St. Rafael Church. After a strong fight with cancer, in lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorials to the Lymphoma Society. A special thanks to the caring staff at Reiman Cancer Center.

Condolences to Gerry’s family from the Merriweather family. Gerry was one of the best human beings I’ve ever known, barring none. I met him upon arriving at 5E in December 1967. He was an absolute master at what he did in running the office at 5E. He was kind to his fellow officers and the public, always willing share his knowledge with others. I consider a blessing to have met and worked with him. RIPGerry!

Jerry was always the go to guy. I learned so much from him I can even say. It could be said that he was the rock of number five. It is with great sadness that I read about his final roll call. Rest in peace Jerry.

For 17 years i worked with Gerry at 5E. He was always the “go too” person who had all the answers. He was renowned for setting up the Christmas parties. I always knew him as a happy, uplifting type of person. He had the patience of job. i never heard a negative comment about Gerry, and there was none to be had.

I’ll always remember Jerry as the answer man of the #5 Early office crew when I was assigned there from 1983 to 1985. Whenever I had a question as to the procedures of Early compared to the Late shift where I had worked for 7 years, I went straight to him and received the answer. Thanks Jerry. RIP.
