Earl Charles “Bud” Barrette, 87, passed into eternal life on Friday, December 4, 2015, following a brief illness. Loving husband of Grace, his cherished wife and “best girl” of 62 years. Beloved father of Peter (Ellen) Barrette, Paul (Rosemarie), Barrette, James (Beth) Barrette, John (Donna) Barrette. Loving grandchildren Erica (J. Erik), Margret (Craig), Andrew (Becky), Katie (Brian), Lenny (Cassie), Aimee (Jason), Heidi, Meghan, and Michaela; great-grandchildren, Brody, Aubrey, Emma, Sam, Peter, Cecilia, L. J., Elsie, Rowan, Calvin, and Hollis; his brother, Eugene Barrette; and a wealth of nieces and nephews. Predeceased in death by his parents and brothers, Antoine, Jerome and Gary Barrette.
Bud was born to Edmund Edward and Aurelia Boivin Barrette in Coleman, Wisconsin, July 22, 1928, one of five sons. His was a life beautifully lived and his legacy an honorable example of humility, integrity and zest for living in his every endeavor. Bud was a man devoted to his family, faith, service, and his many friends. He was a beloved and loving son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and colleague.
Following his high school graduation, Bud became a journeyman carpenter and later, general contractor. Bud met Grace in Milwaukee and they dated through his tour of duty in the United States Army, where he served his country in the Korean Conflict. He returned to Wisconsin from overseas to marry his sweetheart, Grace, and joined his father-in-law, Peter Schwabe, in the family business. Bud “retired” from PSI in 1995 as President.
Father to four sons, Bud’s larger-than-life presence and unwavering commitment to family life served as an inspirational model to his boys. Bud’s and Grace’s 62-year marriage has been a living testament to their deeply-held beliefs, sacred commitment to one another, and active prayer life. In the greater community, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the board of St. Thomas More High School, as well as a 60-year member of St. Barbara/Rafael’s Parish choir.
Bud’s life will be celebrated at a visitation Wednesday, December 9th beginning at 4:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. vigil at the Heritage Funeral Home, 4800 S. 84th Street, Greenfield, Wisconsin, 53228. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, December 10th at 10:30 a.m., St. Mary Catholic Faith Community, 9540 West Forest Home Drive, Hales Corners, 53130 , with a visitation from 9:30 – 10:15 a.m.; interment at St. Adalbert’s Cemetery.
