Doerr

Doerr, Donald M.
May 5, 2010 age 75 years. Beloved husband of Ida nee Schilling. Dear father of Bonni Brian Watkins, Perry Rosetta, Eric, and Beth Dennis Graf. Fond father-in-law of Cathy Doerr. Loving grandfather of Roxanne and Elizabeth Doerr of Italy; Stephanie Randy Weishar, Joseph, and Scott Doerr; Christian and Amanda Graf and great-grandfather of Charlie, Grace and Roxy. Brother of Cliff Ann Doerr and the late Pauline Trost. Brother-in-law of Joyce Schilling, Jeanette Schilling, Lynn Audrey Schilling and Louis Trost. Preceded in death by Allen, Keith Beulah and Dale Schilling. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Donald worked for Milwaukee County, first at the Mental Health Center North Division for 23 years where he was an attendant supervisor and then at the Milwaukee County House of Correction where he worked as a guard until he retired in 1990.
Don served in a variety of units and positions of responsibility in the U.S. Army. These included active duty service with the 1st Infantry Division in Germany during the Cold War, the Wisconsin Army National Guard 32nd Infantry Division during the Cuban Missile Crisis including active duty deployment to Fort Lewis Washington, and in the U.S. Army Reserves 84th Division Tng.
Don was a lifelong military patch collector and a member of the American Society of Military Insignia Collectors. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends fishing, swimming, and sitting around the bonfire at his lake Cottage and later retirement home near Lake Tomahawk, Wisconsin. He cherished all pets and animals: dogs, cats, guinea pigs, chipmunks, deer, ducks, and turtles. His love of wildlife did not extend to spiders.
In lieu of flowers, Don would have appreciated donations to the animal shelter or wildlife refuge of your choice.
Don’s family would like to thank everyone at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center for their tremendous care and compassion.
Special thanks to the scouts of Troop 612 for all their support and comfort.
Visitation Tues. May 11, 4-7 pm with memorial funeral services at 7pm.
