David S.
Harmon

Harmon, David S. Lt. Col US Air Force (RET) passed away from lung complications on May 10, 2013, at the age of 76 years. Loving and devoted husband of the late Virginia (nee Kleba) for 53 years. Dear father of Debra Jean, Douglas John (Sue), Diane June, Daniel Jaye and Donna Jane. Grandfather of Nathan, Virginia, Taylor, Zach and Dylan. Loving son of the late John and Betty Harmon. Survived by sisters-in-law Susan Thomson and Ruth Kleba. Brother-in-law of the late Edwin, Daniel and Evelyn Kleba. Brother of Jack (Lee) Harmon and Ramona (the late Robert) Schmidt. Further survived by many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a squadron of friends.

Colonel Harmon was in the Wisconsin Air National Guard 1954–1955, a Vietnam Veteran, retired after 31 and a half years of Air Force service, a pilot for American Airlines, Scott Air Charter . . . if it had wings, he flew it. Primarily a C130 pilot, he also flew fighter jets, several commercial and private models. A member of the Libertarian Party (the Libertarian Gubernatorial candidate in 1994), the QB’s, the WI ANG Community Council and the founding president of the USGA-sanctioned Bruemoor Golf Club. David was fiercely committed to his family, a patriot, defender of the U.S. Constitution, lover of wordplay, had a mischievous sense of humor—ultimately a man of singular character and integrity. A highly intelligent, active gift to those who knew him and to country.

Dave will be sincerely missed by all of his fellow pilots and friends. I met Dave when I joined our flying club many years ago. His wit and sarcasm (kindly directed) as well as his uncanny ability to tell humorous stories were enjoyed by all who knew him. I consider myself fortunate to have been associated with Dave. Sadly, I will be in San Francisco this week and will be unable to attend Dave’s services.

My deepest sympathies to all of Dave’s family and friends.

I have considered Dave a good friend for 25 years. We have shared many great times together, he and Ginny treated me like family. Just associating with someone who is as principled as Dave helps you become a better person.

God-speed David Spencer Harmon you will be missed.
