KRAHN, DAVID H.
RACINE—David H. Krahn, age 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Elizabeth Residence Assisted Living in Racine.
He was born on January 15, 1930, in Chicago, IL, the son of Herbert and Cora (Kiefer) Krahn. He graduated from Tilden Tech High School in 1948. He worked for Northwest Airlines as a cargo handler until 1951. David then served from 1951 to 1953 in the Korean War, as a member of the U.S. Army, assigned to the 533rd Ordinance Company. After returning from his military service, David married Irmgard R. Buss on September 26, 1953, and settled in Cudahy, WI to raise their family. He worked for Ladish Company as a metal lathe operator until his retirement in 1988. His wife, Irmgard, died in August, 1988. David was remarried to Marjorie J. Burt on March 13, 1990, and they resided in Franklin, WI.
David learned to play the guitar in his thirties, and thus began a lifelong love of music. He initially played gigs in a three-man band, The Twilight Trio, and later played outdoor concerts at Wilson Park with The Wilson Knights Big Band. David loved anything to do with music, Germany or the military. He was an active member of his church throughout his life. David was a simple and humble man, always willing to lend a helping hand.
David is survived by his wife, Marjorie; children, Gregory Krahn of South Milwaukee, Karen (Shelly) Krahn of Madison and Mark (Annabelle) Krahn of Racine; brother, Donald (Pat) Krahn of Redlands, CA; grandchildren, Brittney, Lauren and Hailey Krahn; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Irmgard and daughter-in-law, Colleen Krahn.
The family would like to thank the staff at Elizabeth Residence Assisted Living for their care and comfort of David over the last two years. A special thank you to his hospice caregiver, Amanda, for her compassion and companionship.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, 9200 S. 27th St., Oak Creek, WI, with Pastor Brian Adams officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11a.m. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park, Oak Creek, WI.
