Dear grandfather of Bethany (Travis) Gibson, Brianna (Kyle) Louder, Caitlyn (Collin) Schmidt, Christian, Nicholas, Jarett Stehlik, Taylor Stehlik, Connor Ryan, Claire Ryan, Mckenna Barzyk, Connor Techlow, Tyler Nielsen, Kayla (Mark) Ellis, Greyson Schmidt, Beckett Schmidt, Maise Schmidt, Wyatt Schmidt, Ryan Andrzejewski, Brandon Andrzejewski, and Benjamin Andrzejewski. Great-grandfather of Hunter and Wesley Gibson, Carson and Ava Louder, Mason Schmidt, Lucas Ellis, Teagan Ellis, and Ellie Ellis. Brother of Kenneth Matchett, brother in-law of Mark Wakeley. Also further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Maude (nee Hoveland); his parents-in-law, Harold and Collette Wakeley; his sister, Doreen Corpron, and sister-in-laws, Lana Matchett and Wanda Wakeley.
Chris and his beloved wife, “his kitziker”, Joan, were high school sweethearts. Throughout their 61 years of marriage, they raised 8 beautiful children. Spending time with his family was his greatest joy in life.
Chris was a handy man through and through. There was nothing he couldn’t do as he loved woodworking, tile work and remodeling. When he wasn’t busy tinkering or fixing things, he also enjoyed tending to his tomato and cucumber plants or enjoying one of his favorite snacks of peanuts and black licorice.
He will be remembered for his love and care for others, always telling jokes, collecting pretty rocks and stones, and being proud of his Irish heritage. He was known as the “World’s Largest Leprechaun”.
A memorial visitation will take place on Monday, June 17, 2024, from 9 am – 11 am at ST. PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH (1720 E Norwich Ave. Milwaukee) with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11 am.
