Charlotte Jo Madeline Mary (Junker) Horton (b:  March 9, 1932.  d:  October, 10, 2023)

At the tender age of 91 years young, Charlotte was born to eternal life, surrounded by her children, in her beloved New Berlin, WI home of 63 years. She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph T. Junker, mother, Mary (Marinko), sister, Mavis Judge, and devoted husband, Thomas J. Horton, Sr.  She is survived by her children Wendy Koehler, Lorrie (Jim) Clarey, Paul (Julie) Schmidt;  grandchildren Miles (Maisie) Allie, Scott Allie, P.J. Koehler, Becky Koehler Schoenig, Stacy (Casey) Cavegn, Julie Rae (Arnaldo) Arango, Jessica Clarey, Philip Clarey, Joshua Clarey, Destiny Clarey, Connor (Megan) Milan-Schmidt, and Mackenzie Schmidt; great grandchildren Melanie, Maxwell, Michael, Paysen, Liana, Kayla, Hunter, Destiny,  Kellum, Malia, and Aurelia. She is further survived by cousins, nieces, and nephews.

For Charlotte’s entire life, she called the Milwaukee area home. As a child, she attended Gesu and Holy Redeemer Catholic Schools. She graduated from Washington High School in 1949. Charlotte’s career in banking started in 1949 for First Wisconsin National Bank and continued with this same financial institution through all of its growth and transitions until her retirement from US Bank in 1997. Charlotte was a member of the Quarter Century Club and enjoyed the occasional get-together with her colleagues. In addition, she and husband Tom were business owners in Brookfield for over 20 years. Those many years of working fulltime, running a business with her husband and raising a family never changed Charlotte’s personal motto of “there is always room for one more.” This could mean anything from setting another place at the table at the drop of a hat, to providing a temporary home to someone for several months at a time.

During retirement, Charlotte and Tom enjoyed taking a few trips—Ireland was a favorite! They also saw much of our country via motorhome. They were extremely active members of the motorhome group, The Dairyaires. Eventually, they took up winter residence in Arizona near their “family of friends” and Charlotte’s dear sister, Mavis.

Wisconsin, though, always tugged on her apron strings and her thoughts were of when she would be back “home” to care for her children in some way. Many beautiful blankets were crocheted for family while traveling. Charlotte also baked many, many, many dozens of chocolate chip cookies so no one entering her home would find an empty cookie jar.  In all of her roles whether daughter, sister, wife, momma, gramma, friend, neighbor, employee or employer, Charlotte was always thinking of ways to be helpful, to nurture, to be a caregiver.  She was a strong, quiet, generous and loving woman who will be missed and remembered always.  We are all better people for having been loved and cared for by her.

In recent years, Charlotte and Tom worshipped at Holy Apostles Catholic Church. Charlotte was a recent participant with her daughters in the Women of Faith, and her son-in-law in the Alpha ministries. Her faith life was enriched by the fellowship she encountered.

Charlotte supported many nonprofits with her generosity, especially humanitarian efforts, medical aid for children and women, and animal rescue organizations. If you would like to give a memorial, please support such an organization of your choice.
