James “Jim” Altstadt, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, February 20, 2022 at the age of 80. He is survived by his loving wife, Faye, his children Jodi Hassler (Patrick), Rick (Shirley), Michelle Cannella (John), his brother, Jack (Terri), grandchildren Christine Hassler (Stefanos Sifandos), Carrie McManus (Ryan), Tajar Altstadt, and Emily Brooks (Brandon), his great-grand children, Dylan, Brennan and Quinten McManus and Cato Brooks, and nieces and nephews.
For nearly 60 years, Jim provided caring support and advice to thousands of bereaved family members in his role as a funeral director. Jim demonstrated his faithfulness to God through example in how he cared for others. He loved nature and enjoyed time at his lake cabin in Northern Wisconsin. Jim enjoyed golf, hunting and fishing, especially when shared with family and friends.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 from 4pm-7pm at HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME 4800 S. 84th St. Additional visitation Thursday, February 24, 2022 visitation will be held from 10am-11am at ST. MARY CATHOLIC FAITH COMMUNITY 9520 W. Forest Home Ave., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. Private family burial Holy Trinity Cemetery.

I’m sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. I worked for him while attending the MATC Mortuary program in 2004/2005. He was a great man.
I remember Jim fondly as one of the “big guys” hanging on the corner of 27th and Greenfield or taking part in an “unsanctioned” (No bats allowed!) softball game on the St. Lawrence School playground way back when – but always on call for his duties at the funeral home even as a teenager!
Over the years Jim afforded my family many kindnesses – above and beyond, as it is said. Thanks Jim,

Faye and Altstadt family, I’m so sorry to hear of Jimmy’s passing. I last spoke to him when my husband Greg passed away on 11/7. He called me to extend condolences and to say that he could not attend the funeral but that we were in good hands with Jim Klemmer. And we were but always appreciated the kindnesses and attention and care of the Altstadt’s from our neighborhood on Layton Boulevard. We just heard of Jim’s passing when my sister Genie was making arrangements with Jim Klemmer for her husband Bill’s funeral this coming Wednesday. Praying you are at peace and staying well. It truly is the most horrific thing surviving the loss of a spouse. Greg and I were together 38 years. God Bless You!
